Change in Shipping Attributes – US Merchants Only

If you are using Google’s Merchant Center, please be aware that from April 6th 2015, your Google Shopping product data may need to include three new attributes.

This will be where your shipping costs vary according to dimensions as well as weight and/or cost per item.

These are the new dimension values that Google will accept.

  • Shipping length
  • Shipping width
  • Shipping height

This is due to ‘major shipping carriers recently began calculating many of their shipping rates based on the dimensional weight of a package rather than just the actual weight.’ Therefore ‘if your carrier has changed the way they calculate shipping rates, you will need to add’ the information for the attributes above.

Google shall start to verify merchants using carrier calculated rates starting April 6th. So do make sure you are fully prepared, otherwise if your shipping rate is found to be inaccurate your products can be disapproved, and if the number of incidences is significant, then your Google Merchant Center account could be suspended.

Again to reiterate, this is only relevant for US Merchants. Feed Manager will be updated to support these changes before the April deadline, so make sure you have all the relevant information needed for these attributes if they are needed well before the deadline.
