Google Merchant Promotions

Google have recently launched some accounts which have access to Merchant Promotions.

Merchant Promotions is still in Beta stage in the UK.   Merchants can be whitelisted through direct invitation (you will receive a communication with them on this)

We can also apply to Google on behalf of clients to be part of this programme.

In simple terms, this allows merchants to offer discount promotions as part of the Google Shopping advertising that allow customers a further percentage off the stated website price through application of one or more discount codes.  This gives merchants another potential avenue to stimulate clicks and resultant sales.

This must be a functional code and can be applied to all products or a selection.  Google will review and validate any promotion before it goes live.

If promotions pass both Policy and Validation review, they will be visible to a limited number of users during the experiment stage. Promotions will be visible more widely once Merchant Promotions officially launch in the UK.

To make this work requires two things:

  1. A promotion to be created in the Merchant Centre, either manually or through a text file submission.  This can target all products (no change to product feed required) OR specific products
  2. If you want to apply product specific promotions then a value has to be supplied with the Google Shopping submission by product ID (sku).

Our Feed Manager platform has been updated with the new field so Merchants can pass these codes through us via their source feed to the Merchant Centre.  Our modules area also includes this new field so that can used in the normal way for these extra attributes.

If you want any help or advice on how to set these up or to apply for inclusion in this programme, contact us.
